We went to Josh's First Communion last weekend. It was nice to see him all dressed up on his special day. I'm so happy that he is part of our family. I wish I would have gotten a picture of Josh with his parents, but there was so much going on and then I forgot.
I know a First Communion is a pretty big deal, so I wanted to give him something bigger as a present. Something more lasting than say a toy or something. At Kelli's request, we bought him a Children's Bible and wrote our testimonies inside. I still felt like I wanted to give him more. I decided on a quilt.
I did some looking on Pinterest and found some plus quilts that I really liked. I figured it was the closest thing to a cross that I was going to get! I didn't want it to look too "communion" ish either. So now Josh can curl up under his quilt with THE Good Book.
I used In Color Order's tutorial for the Plus Quilt. I decided to make mine out of all solids and really love the way it turned out. It's backed in navy/cream polka dots and bound in a natural/navy stripe. I'm loving the striped binding lately! Sorry I don't have a detail pic. Maybe next time I'm at Josh's house. For the quilting I just did straight lines on either side of each seam. I love how it reinforces the plus signs.
And another picture of Josh on his big day...
