Toy Bin Labels

Shoot - this isn't on my bucket list. But it's DONE! Woo hoo!

A new year means new attempts at organization, right? We have serious issues in our play room. I figured that labels on our bins would help Clark and others know where the toys should be put away. It was actually pretty easy...so why did it take me so long?

I did a little photo session of the toys this morning while the kids were playing with Gigi. Then I printed them on labels (I used Avery 8163) and affixed them to our bins. Done. Avery 8163 are 2"x4" - nice and big!

I actually had to print the labels in 2 steps. I printed the pictures first and then ran it back through with the words. I HATE working in MS Word. Can labels be done in Photoshop? I'm even embracing the fact that the words overlap the pictures on a few occasions.

Don't they look great? I love bins all lined up in a row. These are similar to these bins from IKEA. We did buy them at IKEA, but I couldn't find the blue ones to link. They are $1.99 each or something wonderful like that! Hoo and ray!

Here's a sneak peak of the whole playroom. I just LOVE it. It's so PLAYful!
So tell me...do labeled bins in playrooms actually work?

September 09 Project

I did a (very little) bit of blog hopping today and ran across a blog that featured One Project a Month (OPAM). The deal was that you post a before picture of your project and commit to it on the first of the month, and then when you are done, you post the after shot. I thought it sounded like a reasonable idea and might get me to finish the projects that I have to do around the house. So, this is my September project: finishing touches on the basement. I'm trying to pick projects where Jason doesn't have to do too much. He doesn't do well with deadlines - just ask my mom!

A few details (more like a to do list for me...)
  • touch up paint on trim
  • paint door
  • install door handles
  • paint around the windows
  • figure out window treatments
  • have Jason install wood on railing
  • second coat of paint on stairs
OK...this is sounding more like a 3 month project, but let's just see how much I can accomplish! Here are some before shots...
Anyone care to join me? What are your unfinished projects? I'm off to paint the basement stairs!
